If you wanted to get them working you just need to go to the Clementine github page and grab a current RC candidate. When Ubuntu base moved from 18.04 to 20.04 the package maintainers pulled the visualization package from Clementine (ProjectM) because they hadn't updated the package from the QT4 base to QT5. The version in the repo is 1.3, which is like 5 years old. The reason why the visualizations don't work for you, I'm guessing, is you got the player out of the standard Mint Repo.
